History of the User Group

The original user group was born back in 1988 under the auspices of the then Mentor Systems Plc. Mentor at that time was an ICL systems 25 software house, who had just introduced their first UNIX offering – MAX.  When the group was first formed there were just 20 or so users.  Over the next few years this grew quickly, and with a new rapidly changing product, there were many issues for users to discuss and challenge with the company.

Develpoment of the User Group

The group has now been in existence for some 30 years and
during the early part of this period we have we have represented users through the growth of the MAX product, then through their migration to the replacement MENTOR product, and subsequently through the various changes of ownership of the business.  During this time the stability of the product has improved considerably, and with that the relationship between the group and the company has improved as well.

Over the last few years, this group has - with company approval – gradually merged with those groups representing the Dema, Summit 1000/2000 and Summit 3000/5000 products.  At the AGM in 2009 it was agreed to confirm this by renaming the group RedSky IT User Group, now representing all RedSky IT products.  The most recent manifestation of this has been the inclusion of content on XCIPIO.

The group does not currently provide any content relevent to Progression users, but it is hoped to incorporate these users in the future.
